Lip enhancement

What is lip enhancement?

Lip enhancement is performed in order to improve the appearance of the lips, and results in fuller, more plump lips. The most common method of lip enhancement is the use of injectable dermal filler, which are formulated to increase the volume of the lips. It is possible, however, to undergo lip augmentation surgery, in which lip implants are used to improve the appearance of thin lips. Lip implants generally provide permanent, more refined results than dermal fillers, and are an effective means of increasing fullness.

What does the procedure involve?

During the procedure, Dr Pillay will make small incisions in the lips, most often at the corners of the mouth, although this will depend on the technique being used. Once he has made the incisions, Dr Pillay will create a thin opening in which the implant can be placed.

The implant will be carefully placed and positioned before it is secured in place. The implant will be trimmed to ensure it is the correct size, and the incision will be stitched closed.

There are a number of implants available, each of which is made from a different type of material. Dr Pillay will advise you of the implant type which is best suited to you, depending on your particular needs and expectations.

How long does recovery take?

You may feel some swelling and bruising following the procedure, and most patients are able to resume their normal daily activities within a week or two. Dr Pillay may prescribe pain medication if it is necessary. After around ten days, your stitches will be removed. You may experience some numbness or stiffness for up to three months after surgery.
