Breast Lift / Reduction

What is a breast lift?

Breast lift surgery, also known as mastoplexy, is a procedure that is performed on a patient that has droopy or saggy breasts. The aim of the procedure is to elevate the breast tissue and to reposition the nipple so that it is higher on the chest wall.

What does the procedure involve?

Before you undergo breast lift surgery, you will meet with Dr Pillay to discuss your options, as well as your particular expectations.

During the procedure, Dr Pillay will mark the position at which your nipple will be placed before removing any excess skin and lifting the breast tissue into its new location.

The procedure usually takes around three hours to complete, and is performed under general anaesthesia.

If the breast has inadequate volume to achieve an aesthetically pleasing result with a breast lift alone, then an augmentation of the breast may need to be done at the same surgery.

How long does recovery take?

You will feel some discomfort after the surgery. Dr Pillay may prescribe pain medication, and recommend that you wear a surgical bra for comfort and support while your heal.

After the surgery, you will need to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity for around four to six weeks.

What is a breast reduction?

A breast reduction procedure is performed in cases where it is necessary to reduce the size of the breasts by removing excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin. The procedure is effective in alleviating the discomfort associated with large breasts, and can also help to achieve a breast size that is more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing to your body.

What does the procedure involve?

Before you undergo breast reduction surgery, you will meet with Dr Pillay to discuss your options, as well as your particular expectations.

The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic. Dr Pillay will make an incision either around the nipple, or around the nipple and down towards the breast crease, before repositioning the nipple. The underlying breast tissue is reduced, lifted and reshaped.
