Fat Fills

What are fat fills?

Fat fills refer to a procedure in which fat is removed from one part of the body (known as the donor site) and purified, before it is injected into another part of the body (known as the target site).

Fat fills are a good option for patients who would like to plump up their cheeks, improve the appearance of facial lines, increase the suppleness of their lips, and enhance their breasts.

What does the procedure involve?

The fat fill procedure is performed in Dr Pillay’s office under a local anaesthetic. The treatment generally takes between 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the case.

To begin the treatment, an antiseptic solution is applied to both the donor site and target area. Dr Pillay will then use a syringe with a thin hollow tube to remove fat cells from the thighs, stomach, or buttocks. The fat cells are then purified in a special process, before they are injected into the target area.

In most cases, you’ll be able to see the results immediately following treatment.

How long does recovery take?

It is quite normal to experience some swelling and bruising after the treatment. You may also experience some redness and tenderness, and scabs may form at the site of treatment.

In most cases, patients may resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. It is advisable that you avoid exposure to the sun. If you experience any prolonged discomfort, please let Dr Pillay know as soon as possible.

In very rare cases, complications may occur and may include infection, scarring, and uneven skin texture.
