Botulinum Toxin
What is botulinum toxin?
Botulinum toxin, also known as Botox, is a type of protein that is used to reduce wrinkles and other visible signs of ageing. The protein is injected into the muscle and blocks the nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract. Botox temporarily weakens the facial muscles, smoothing out wrinkles. For cosmetic purposes, the formula can be used in the area between the eyebrows to treat frown lines, and around the eyes to treat crow’s feet lines. It can also be used to treat a range of medical problems, including chronic migraines, an overactive bladder, excessive underarm sweating, and lower limb spasticity
What does the procedure involve?
During the procedure, Dr Pillay will use a very thin needle to administer the injections. Three to five injections are typically administered in each area of treatment. The treatment generally takes around ten minutes to complete.
